we have too much water

after our -15 degree temps and -30 degree wind chill it happened...frozen pipes. craig came home for lunch on thursday, opened the front door and heard it...niagra falls.

he went running into the kitchen but didn't see anything. he could hear that is was coming from the far wall but no sign of water. then it hit him...the crawl space.

he ran into the laundry room and opened the mini door to the crawl space and found it...about two inches of water was filling the lower half of our house.

in the end we were blessed beyond belief. we can't imagine what would have happened had craig not come home from work. most likely we would be down a furnace, water heater, washer/dryer, television and our family room and guest room would have wet carpet and wet drywall.

my husband is amazing. after making a few quick phone calls he decided to take on the disaster himself. he went and rented two big fans and purchased some plumbing supplies. when we got home he started to vacuum out the water. one.bucket.at.a.time. it took hours. lots of buckets were filled up then carried upstairs into the backyard and dumped out. once that was complete he had to remove the plastic tarp lining. it was messy! once we got that out we were left with one muddy mess. the fans went in and craig came out.

at some point in the process he cut the busted pipe and put a shark bit in it...or something like that. all i know is that whatever he did allowed up to turn the water back on without creating a swimming pool under our kitchen and living room.

the fans have been going for 24 hours and we are no where near dry. thankfully colorado is dry so mold is not as common as moist climates, but we still need to get that water out.

hopefully by the end of the weekend we hope it will be dry...or dryer.

the joys of home ownersihp.
