Property Virgins

We closed on our first home a few weeks ago. It was such a strange feeling being a homeowner. Paying rent was a thing of the past and we all of the sudden owed a very large sum of money to some big scary bank. In a matter of minutes I felt like a grown up. We hopped in our cars and drove over to our new house. After walking through for a few minutes we grabbed a Hot-N-Ready, cheesy bread and some Orange Crush and got back to the apartment to watch the Broncos play some Monday Night Football. If they had not been playing we would have been throwing paint samples on the wall that night.

The next day we were so happy. All of our coworkers were excited for us. It was such a special time. That afternoon I got a phone call from Craig that went something like this:

Craig: I've got some bad news about the house, we didn't close yesterday.
Ashlyn: What do you mean? They have our money and we have the keys.
Craig: They didn't have all the proper paperwork and the second bank is very upset.

You can imagine how the rest of the conversation went. So here we sit three weeks later and they are still trying to sort it all out. Half of our belongings are packed in the garage but we don't know if we will move anytime soon. For the third week in a row we are being told we should close by Friday. We don't know if they remember that it's a holiday week or not. Oh well, life is going on and we will be just fine with or without our first house.

God is teaching us through this experience. We're working on patience, not holding onto things too tightly, etc. At the end of the day God is still good and life really isn't that tough.
